Slightly after Thomas Phipps' time as Captain, this is the Shrivenham Cricket Club team of 1910. For some of the names appearing in this photo please see item number N797 in this catalogue. The photo was taken in the grounds of the Vicarage, High Street, Shrivenham.

Thomas Phipps - 1840-1926

Thomas Phipps was landlord of the Barrington Arms for 23 years from 1889 - 1912. As well as running a popular pub he was also the Captain of the Shrivenham Cricket team for nearly 15 years. He died in Swindon in 1926 and his obituary appeared in the newspaper, North Wilts Herald. To read a transcription please go HERE
