Roman Villa at Woolstone

This listing covers the discovery of a large Roman Villa just to the west of Woolstone, a small village near Uffington. It was covered by the local newspapers and those articles can be read here. We are not aware of any further archaeological work that may have been carried out on this site since the initial discovery in 1884. If any reader knows of any we would be grateful for the information by Email: info@shrivenhamheritagesociety.co.uk

There are two full length newspaper articles to read. The first is from the Berkshire Chronicle dated Sat 31 May 1884 and may be accessed HERE.

The second is from the Faringdon Advertiser dated Sat 31 May 1884 accessed HERE

We are grateful to Jon Simpson who drew our attention to an article that appeared in the Berkshire Archaeological Journal No 57 in 1959, concerning more work carried out on the site. To read the article please go HERE
