Love Silver and Wool Silver

The Messuage that pay love silver also wool silver in the tythinge of Shrivenham as paid this present year 1768. Reproduced in 1879 with names.

Original details from 1768 includes details of names, descriptions, present owner and sum to be paid.

This list is among Sir Mark Pleydell's papers on Shrivenham deposited in the Berkshire Records Office Ref DEX 52M1 19A. Copy made in 1978 by E Jeacock who commented: "Though a precise definition cannot, at present, be found, it appears to be a local toll of some kind.  It has been suggested that perhaps love silver is a corruption of lepselver which was a toll for driving cattle over greens."

Ref SHR1 336.2 - Letter regarding interpretation of said item.

There is also a letter from the County Archivist at Berkshire Record Office, concerning the name Jenner and Love Silver and Wool Silver.
