Berkshire Vale (Poems & Sketches)

Put quite simply, this book is, 'pure and simple quality.' It was donated to Shrivenham Heritage Society by Peter Anderson on 19th October, 2011. It consists of poetry by Wilfred Howe-Nurse and beautifully illustrated by Cecil Aldin. The subject material is all from within the Vale of the White Horse.

Its condition is slightly delicate and so it has been carefully stored until we were able to find a way of copying it without damage. We have now been able to do that and are very happy to put it up online in pdf format for everyone to see. Some of the sketches have had to be scanned in two halves because of the size of the pages which measure 37cm X 28cm.

The original has now gone back into safe storage, but anyone who would like to see it may do so by prior request. But we hope you will enjoy the online digital copy. And just to lure you to look at the pdf file, we've put three sketches here.

You can read the whole book by going HERE   (it's a big file - please allow time for it to load)
