Mediaeval Shrivenham Research - Probate

This listing froms part of the Dils & Schwartz Collection which is composed of all the notes from the very detailed research carried out by those two ladies, for the publication of their book, 'Tudor and Stuart Shrivenham.' It is a remarkable collection and contains a huge amount of material, much of it translated from the original latin in which it was written.

This particular file deals with Probate records pre - 1640. They cover Longcot, Bourton and Fernham and some from Shrivenham. Some of the early forms are headed, 'Catholic' and reflect the times. 

Value of estates range from £206 to just a few pounds. Bequests are identified. All Appraisers, Executors and Witnesses' are named. All effects are named and given a value.
