The more ancient part of the old Beckett House that George Merryweather would have known well

George Merryweather - Steward of Beckett Estate 1815-1821

George Merryweather was a remarkable man and finding a bundle of his letters in one of the files of the Barrington Collection at the British Library was most fortunate. By transcribing and studying the letters, it has been possible to understand his way of thinking and his modus operandi. Shrivenham Heritage Society have not only studied and published his letters to his boss, Lord Barrington (5th Viscount), but have also researched further into his life.
