The Cross Trees Shrivenham towards the end of their life
Photo dated circa 1900 from the Les Judd/SHS Collection

Cross Tree Elms in Shrivenham High Street

This listing consists of an old photo of the Cross Trees that once stood in the centre of Shrivenham. They are in a poor state approaching the end of their lives, so the photo would date from circa 1920-30s. They were finally removed in the 1960s after becoming completely rotten and hollow.

The second photo dates from circa 1900 when the trees were at their full height and general good condition. The girth of the trunks would suggest that they were approx 300 years old so may have been planted in the middle of the 17th century.
