Bourton Grange & Grange Farm

The study of what we are calling the Bourton House papers (BHP) has revealed new information on many aspects of Bourton, and Shrivenham Heritage Society is grateful to Pinewood School for releasing them into our care.

In the 18th and 19th centuries there were two farms at Lower Bourton. One was a Parsonage in that it was the receiver of tithes for the land in the area. It was later called Parsonage Farm N1337 and 19th century maps bear that name. The other farm was owned by the Pleydells at Coleshill, later to become the Earl of Radnor's Estate. That bears the name Lower Field Farm. N1325

On the large house that became known as The Grange, the finials above two of the Dutch Gables bear the initials JT and 1849, referring to the man who commissioned the building of it and when, John Tucker. N147
