Beckett House Maintenance

The Mansion House that stands at Beckett today was started to be built in 1829. It wasn't habitable until 1833 and not completely finished until 1850. To read more about the building of the house, please go to Listing No N376 in this catalogue. All buildings require maintenance and 150 years later, Beckett House was in dire need of repairs. It is fortunate that the government own the house it being part of the miltary etsablishment, and consequently they do have a duty of care. In the 1980s that responsibility was tested when severe problems were discovered. At that time the house was being used as the Library and Librarian J.S. Town, detailed the events that took place.
