Watchfield House & matters concerning

To avoid any confusion to the researcher, it may be as well to point out here that the property today in Watchfield called, 'Watchfield House' is the second building to bear that name. The original, and much larger Georgian house, was located at the southern end of the village and was destroyed by fire in 1874. For more information on this original house please go HERE

This listing consists of information on William Hallet, who occupied Watchfield House for a short period. He was Chairman of the Wilts & Berks Canal Navigation Co, and on his retirement decided to sell his large collection of liquor.

There is also information here on another tenant of the original Watchfield House, a man called William Whitworth, who was a Canal Surveyor.

Also a small newspaper article on the sale of the original Watchfield House in 1847.

There is also a newspaper article concerning the sale of furniture and effects from the second Watchfield House.
